Downtown Bangor horror shop moving to larger space

A horror-themed downtown shop is moving to a larger storefront on Main Street.

The Emporium Spooky Goods & More will be open through March 25 at its 22 State St. location before moving over to 51-A Main St., next to Knapp’s Music Center.

The new location is set to open May 1, after the owners finish painting and setting up the new space.

The State Street store will open at 10 a.m. daily through next week with a moving sale on certain items, according to owner Kaddie Sharpe. Closing times will vary and be posted to the store’s social media.

The gift shop sells art, clothes, DVDs and other memorabilia inspired by the horror genre.

Sharpe, who owns the store with her husband, Nick Iammatteo, is excited to move into a bigger space after outgrowing the storefront where the Emporium opened in 2024.

“We have pretty much maxed out in the items we’re able to carry, because of the space,” she said, adding that the business recently had to turn away local artists who wanted to display their work in the store because there wasn’t enough shelf space.

“We have wanted to have a place where we can have more inventory and hold more events under our own roof,” Sharpe said. She hopes to expand the store’s inventory to include more spooky-themed clothing, including dresses and accessories, and more jewelry.

The store has hosted movie nights but only has space for about 15 people. The Main Street location will hold between 30 and 40, according to Sharpe.

With the flexibility of a larger space, Sharpe also wants to host craft nights in the new store in collaboration with local artists, filling what she sees as a gap in downtown events catering to a spooky crowd.

Online ordering and in-person order pickup will still be available between the State Street store’s closure March 25 and the opening of the Main Street location, Sharpe said.

The business will also continue to host events in April, including its annual Goth Prom, which will be held April 25 at the Morgan Hill Event Center in Hermon.
