Sara Haines has addressed whether The View’s hosts have any concerns for their safety amid the disappearance of Today host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.

“Any concerns I have are not new,” Haines, 48, told Page Six in an interview published on Wednesday, March 18. “For anyone thinking about their place in the world, it’s always a concern. I think with Savannah Guthrie, we’re still too in it to assess it.”

Haines previously worked with Savannah, 54, during her own tenure on Today from 2009 to 2013. The View cohost admitted that her personal connection to the Guthrie family has made it difficult to process.

“Having worked with Savannah, I can’t get past her part and her mom’s part to even think about my life, myself [and] how it affects the greater world,” Haines told the publication. “I’m so single-focused on being brought to my knees in pain from a distance watching this.”

Haines went on, “I want it solved, I want them to figure something out. My heart breaks and I have no words for how hard this is to watch.”

The ladies of The View publicly offered their support to the Guthrie family when news broke about Nancy’s disappearance in early February.

“This is, probably, one of the hardest stories I think we’ve ever sort of had to talk about a little bit,” Whoopi Goldberg told The View audience on February 5. “Our hearts go out to Savannah Guthrie and her family as the search continues for her mom, Nancy.”

Pima County, Arizona, police have said that Nancy, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. When Nancy did not show up to attend a virtual church service on February 1, a friend alerted her family.

A family member reportedly visited Nancy’s home and subsequently alerted police when she could not be located. The following day, Pima County police held a press conference to confirm the disappearance of a “vulnerable adult,” whom they later identified as Nancy.

In the six weeks since Nancy went missing, Arizona police have been joined by the FBI to interview multiple people in connection with the disappearance, though no suspects have been publicly named and no charges have been filed. Security camera footage from Nancy’s home as well as the description of a suspect seen at her front doorstep on the night of her disappearance have also been released to encourage public tips.

Savannah announced via Instagram on February 24 that her family is personally offering a $1 million reward to be “paid only for [the] recovery of Nancy Guthrie.” (Federal officials have offered a separate $100,000 reward for a successful tip.)

In early March, Savannah returned to the Today studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to thank her coworkers for “caring about my mom as much as I do” in an emotional reunion.

“I have every intention of coming back,” she told the Today team. “I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to. You’re my family. And I would like to try.”

A Today spokesperson subsequently confirmed that Savannah “plans to return to the show on air” in the future but that she “remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home” for now.
