The city of Bangor will close on-street parking around Kenduskeag Stream Plaza on Monday night anticipating that continued rain might flood the area.
Starting at 8 p.m. Monday, no parking will be allowed next to the canal behind the Pickering Square Parking Garage, Merchants Plaza, Bangor Savings Bank, Camden National Bank and the Penobscot Judicial Center.
The city anticipates reopening the area to vehicles early Tuesday morning but as of Monday afternoon, that timeline was tentative.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning through Tuesday afternoon for many parts of northern and eastern Maine, anticipating rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5 inches widely, and as much as 2.5 inches in some areas.
The warning also includes an elevated risk of ice jam flooding in rivers and streams from increasing runoff.
