A 19-year-old Fort Fairfield man has been charged with arson after two building fires in the town on Tuesday, including a former town garage.
At about 6:15 p.m. town firefighters were called to a structure fire and found smoke coming from the old Public Works garage at 61 Park St.
With help from local police, investigators from the state fire marshal’s office located two people suspected to be involved, and through an investigation learned of another fire at 9 Park St.
Both blazes were ruled arson, the fire marshal’s office said.
Leo Rideout Jr., 19, of Fort Fairfield, was arrested and charged with arson. He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail.
The fire marshal’s office said the investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests may follow.
