CAPE ELIZABETH — The TD Beach to Beacon 10K Board of Directors has selected lifelong runners Laurie Mitchell as its new president and Margaret Angell as vice president.
Mitchell is a health and wellbeing leader with more than two decades of experience designing and scaling innovative, results-driven programs that improve population health and expand access to care. Her career includes 11 years at MaineHealth and nine years at Unum, where she led enterprise-wide strategies supporting health and wellbeing for employees. Mitchell now provides consultative and advisory services to employers and companies building or enhancing their wellbeing programs, benefits, and health-focused products.
Mitchell ran for Central Park Track Club while living in New York City and continues to run recreationally today. She has completed the TD Beach to Beacon 10K 10 times, volunteered in a variety of race activities and organized corporate running teams for MaineHealth and Unum. She has served on the board of directors and nominating committee since 2019 and brings deep local roots, strategic leadership and a personal commitment to expanding access to running and wellbeing for all in her role as board president.
Mitchell also serves on the board of directors of Wayside Food Programs and lives in Portland with her husband Will.
Angell brings deep experience in building organizations with lasting community value.
She ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Harvard University, was a longtime member of the Central Park Track Club and competed in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in the women’s marathon. She remains an active road racer and a passionate advocate for the sport.
Professionally, Angell has spent her career translating bold ideas into disciplined execution. With early-career experience in investment banking and as a White House Fellow, she most recently pioneered the development of the Roux Institute, serving as its first employee and helping build it from concept to Maine’s leading hub for high-tech graduate education, research, and entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, the Roux Institute grew to more than 900 graduate students and launched development of a 13.5-acre campus in Portland.Previously, Angell was on the founding team of Take the Field, which delivered 45 outdoor athletic facilities across New York City in just three years, and authored the implementation plan for Boston’s universal pre-K program, ultimately building programs serving more than 2,000 students.
The TD Beach to Beacon 10K draws runners from New England and throughout the world to picturesque Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The race begins on Route 77 near the Crescent Beach State Park entrance, winds along tree-lined streets and past breathtaking ocean vistas and ends in Fort Williams Park at historic Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the world.
