Stumble is pulling out one more surprise with Katey Sagal joining the show in a key role.
Us Weekly can exclusively confirm that Sagal, 72, appears in the season finale, which airs Friday, March 13. Sagal portrays Marg Hargberg a.k.a Courteney’s (Jenn Lyon) former coach who influenced the way she has taught cheerleading.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from Friday’s episode, Courteney accidentally runs into Marg at College Nationals.
“I just can’t believe my old coach is here. Marg would just really scream at me and say very mean things about my legs. She gave me PTSD,” Courteney says. “For many years, if I was close enough to smell her lotion, my right arm would go dead.”

Courteney explains in the sneak peek that she’s making progress, adding, “I’m a grown and very accomplished woman now. So why don’t we go say hello. Come on, it’s the classy thing to do.”
The reunion doesn’t go exactly as planned when Marg mocks Courteney’s “weird legs” that are “too big to fly, too small to base.” Courteney fires back that her legs are “just the right size to coach” as she aims to get her 15th trophy.
“Oh, I’ll be the judge of that. I’m not on your team anymore,” Marge teases. “I am one of the judges of this competition.”
Courteney doesn’t process the information well, adding, “Are you kidding me right now? Marg Hargberg had to just crawl out of some hole to come and judge my team. … You know what else? I like my legs. My friends like my legs. In fact, one time I was on a bus and an older gentleman told me they just don’t quit. So these legs — in fact — can, will and must deliver the most flawless routine that that old man has ever seen.”
Stumble is a mockumentary that explores the highly competitive world of junior college cheerleading. The cast is made up of Lyon, Georgie Murphy, Arianna Davis, Kristin Chenoweth and Taran Killam. Ryan Pinkston, Jarrett Austin Brown, Anissa Borrego and Taylor Dunbar also star in the show.

The series is inspired by the Netflix hit Cheer and Navarro College coach Monica Aldama, who is an executive producer on the project.
“Monica is on the page. The writers have created a brilliant character to play, but it definitely is inspired by Monica,” Lyon exclusively told Us in November 2025 about bringing her role to life. “She is tough as nails and inscrutable at points. But the way she is stern but loving, the way she’d give you the shirt off her back, the way she is driven and committed is all over the DNA of the character.”
Lyon noted that Courtney is “different” from Aldama.
“She’s got aspects of Monica, but reading her on the page and getting to collaborate with the writers, the creators and the director, we fleshed out how we wanted Courtney to be — including her level of warmth and wackiness,” Lyon teased. “I love to trip over things on the floor. I love to run into a doorjamb. These are things that Monica doesn’t do.”
Stumble airs on NBC Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET.
