MADAWASKA, Maine — The new owner of the former Land Port of Entry in Madawaska will soon make beer at the site.
The former border station will become a “community-invested and profit-shared brewpub” under its owner, 63 Bridge St. LLC, U.S. General Services Administration officials said Tuesday.
The property will become North Star Brewing and the North Star Community Brewpub, according to the new company’s social media page. The page so far only contains a logo.
The administration put the building up for auction in August, sparking a bidding war that extended the auction multiple times and tripled the original bid.
The property sold on Dec. 30 for $173,000, but the administration did not name the owner at the time. The sale has now been finalized, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection ceased operating the former facility in 2024 to make way for a new Land Port of Entry and bridge that opened in Madawaska last year, and connects the town to the Canadian city of Edmundston.
“The sale of the former Madawaska Land Port of Entry is another action GSA’s taken to scale our real estate portfolio to its core,” GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst said in the release. “By disposing of underutilized assets, we are focusing on our mission to eliminate costly liabilities for American taxpayers.”
