Britney Spears is due in court two months after her arrest for driving under the influence.

Us Weekly confirmed Spears, 44, was arrested and taken into police custody on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:28 p.m. According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office records, she was released at 6:07 a.m. on Thursday, March 5. The online records confirmed Spears is set to appear in court on Monday, May 4.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” a rep for Spears told Us in a statement on Thursday, March 5. “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

In the wake of her arrest, Spears’ Instagram account appears to be deactivated. Spears made waves with her final two social media posts, both of which were videos of her dancing shared earlier this week.

In one of the clips, Spears appeared to be wearing a purple lace bodysuit with a deep V-neck. As she danced, her left breast became exposed. Spears censored herself with a red heart emoji over the area.

“Song representing fragility be careful my friends when dealing with the queen of hearts,” she captioned the clip, according to fans who have reposted it online.

Britney Spears’ Mental Health, Conservatorship Battle Explained

The second video showed Spears dancing once again, this time in an all-white outfit.

“Just angel… seriously though… you will know when I’m here… HALO… I f***ing dare you!!!!!” that caption apparently read. “Ps if you really know me you know I hate dresses… I’m a tom boy sorry I had to put a shirt on.”

Spears’ DUI arrest on Wednesday comes nearly five years after her conservatorship was terminated.

After the singer rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s, she started to make headlines for a series of personal struggles. Following her 2007 divorce from ex-husband Kevin Federline — with whom she shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19 — Spears was placed under a conservatorship. Her father, Jamie Spears, and a group of others had control of the singer’s legal, financial and business decisions. After 13 years, a judge terminated the conservatorship in November 2021.

“I became a robot. But not just a robot — a sort of child-robot. I had been so infantilized that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself,” Britney wrote in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me. “The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”
