And just like that, Stefon Diggs’ time with the New England Patriots is over.
On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Patriots have informed the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver of their plans to release him at the start of the new league year on March 11.
“The Patriots informed four-time Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs they’re releasing him after the start of the league year next week, per sources,” Pelissero posted on X.
Diggs’ contract was set to count $26.5 million against the salary cap next season, and there were talks of the two sides attempting to work out a restructured deal. However, that deal apparently never came to fruition, and the 32-year-old receiver will be searching for a new home in 2026.
Diggs became the first Patriots receiver since Julian Edelman to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in a single season. He hauled in 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in his one-and-done year in New England. However, he struggled during the playoffs against better defenses, catching only 14 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown in a four-game stretch.
