We are sorrowful to read of his passing and we here in midcoast Maine will miss our summer neighbor Frederick Wiseman.
It was our pleasure to offer a polite hello and a quick and quiet “Thank you for your films,” as we shared a checkout line in the local food co-op.
It was also our privilege to hear him speak onstage after two sold-out anniversary showings of our county seat’s namesake film, “Belfast, Maine” (1999) in the historic downtown film theater, the Colonial.
I will continue to think of his scenes, his faces, the lines of dialog every time I drive past his road on the other side of the hill.
America is better for his works, and may these be taught in many schools, for a long time.
