Five months after Celeste Rivas’ body was found in a car that belonged to D4vd, the singer has been named as the target of a Los Angeles grand jury investigation in new court documents.
The court documents state that D4vd, 20, “may be involved in the death of a 15-year-old victim” identified as Rivas, according to Fox 11.
Rivas was first reported missing from Lake Elsinore in 2024, while her body was discovered on September 8, 2025, inside of a Tesla that was registered to D4vd (real name: David Anthony Burke).
After the car was abandoned near a Hollywood Hills home that D4vd was renting, the vehicle was moved to an impound lot. Employees at the impound lot called police to report a foul odor coming from the car, and Rivas’ body was ultimately found dismembered inside.

The new filings, which were unsealed following a motion by a Texas court, state that Rivas “may have been the victim of foul play.”
Additionally, the paperwork revealed disturbing new details about how authorities discovered Rivas’ remains.
Officers found two separate cadaver bags in the front storage compartment of the vehicle, according to the filing. One cadaver bag was covered with insects and contained “decomposed head and torso,” while the second bag contained Rivas’ arms and legs.
The documents state that police described her body as “severely decomposed,” adding that the smell of decay attracted flies to the car.
The Department of Transportation marked the vehicle and issued a citation before it was impounded, according to the filing.
A grand jury in Los Angeles has officially named D4vd – whose real name is David Anthony Burke – a “target” of the investigation, per the paperwork.
The documents also revealed that D4vd’s father, Dawud Burke, was called to testify in the case earlier in February.
The grand jury may be investigating D4vd for “one count of murder,” though he has not been formally charged in the case.
D4vd was on tour at the time Rivas’ body was found. After he was connected to the crime, it was revealed that he and Rivas were romantically involved prior to her death.

The singer has insisted he had nothing to do with Rivas’ death. A spokesperson for D4vd told NBC News in September 2025 that he “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Retired NYPD Sergeant Joe Giacalone previously spoke to investigative reporter Kristin Thorne about the case for Us Weekly’s Uncovered and discussed why no charges have been filed in the case yet.
“Because this is such a huge media case, and people want to know the answers, they want to know the answers to what caused her death? Who caused her death? If anybody caused her death,” Giacalone said. “I think people need to be patient. I think investigators will come up with the answers that everyone is looking for.”
Giacalone then pointed out that if investigators “rush” the investigation, they might end up “making a mistake.”
Representatives for D4vd did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
