Spring is coming to Maine and people will soon start to flock to the state’s vacation hotspots, including Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.
The region is known for holding some of Maine’s priciest estates as well as modest homes and lakefront camps, though real estate prices on the island tend to be more expensive than other parts of the state.
Several homes on Mount Desert have changed hands so far this month. We rounded up three homes that sold across the island this month, which range wildly in size, price and characteristics.
With an average sale price of nearly $3.9 million, the homes soar above the median home price for Hancock County, which now rests slightly below $396,000. But, for communities like Bar Harbor and Mount Desert, an average home can cost more than $600,000 and $800,000, respectively, according to data from Zillow.
Tremont, $875,000

This 2,062-square-foot antique home on Cape Road in Tremont, built in 1870, sold on Feb. 20 for its initial asking price of $875,000.
The more than 5-acre property includes the main four-bedroom, five-bathroom home, a detached one-car garage, and a separate workshop building. Ellsworth-based Pemetic Purveyors was the listing agency for the property.
The main house features wide pine flooring, exposed beams, cherry cabinets in the kitchen and french doors leading out to a back patio. More than two dozen apple trees are scattered around the land.
The barn-styled workshop offers 4,000 square feet of space and is heated, insulated and has electricity. The lower level has three garage bays, an office and a bathroom, while the second floor is finished.
Seal Harbor, $10.2 million

The nearly 7,000-square-foot main house has a library, multiple fireplaces, a wine cellar, a private balcony off the master bedroom and an attached two-car garage, among other luxuries.
Meanwhile, the 1,165-square-foot guest or pool house features a vaulted ceiling and granite fireplace in the main living area, a kitchenette, a full bathroom and sliding doors that lead out to a patio and heated inground pool.
Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty helped the property sell on Feb. 19 for slightly more than $10.2 million, about $1 million under its initial asking price of $11.3 million.
Bar Harbor, $505,000

Perched near Mount Desert Island’s Northeast Cove, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Bar Harbor offers 1,100 square feet of living space and sits on a more than one-acre lot.
Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate The Masiello Group helped sell the property earlier this month for $505,000, slightly more than its asking price of $489,000.
Built in 2022, the ranch-style home offers a gas fireplace, wood flooring and open layout in the main living space, heat pumps and a large back deck.
The property, which is located in a subdivision off Indian Point Road, is also close to walking and hiking trails.
