Two students from Narraguagus High School landed the fish of a lifetime during their February vacation.
Parker Scully, 14, invited his friend Branden Alley, 15, to spend a day ice fishing on West Grand Lake. It was Alley’s first time targeting lake trout, and Scully was eager to show him how it’s done.
The boys, who both live in Milbridge, picked their own spot, drilled the hole and selected the bait. Alley even predicted that morning he was going to catch the big one — and sure enough, they did.
Fishing a tip-up, they hooked into a giant: a 36.5-inch lake trout weighing 15.5 pounds.
Parker’s father, Jeremy, helped them set the trap, but when the flag popped, the teens handled the fight themselves. A tense 20-minute battle followed as the trout made several powerful runs and refused to give up easily at the hole.
“They pulled it in by themselves,” Jeremy said. “It was teamwork that made the dream work for these two boys.”
The fish was handled with care, kept wet for photos and released — a trophy still swimming for another angler and an unforgettable end to their February break.
