Former The Vampire Diaries costars Arielle Kebbel and Zach Roerig have called it quits.
“I haven’t been in a relationship in quite some time,” Kebbel, 41, revealed on the Thursday, February 19, episode on the “Off the Vine” podcast before host Kaitlyn Bristowe jokingly offered her congratulations for the actress’ single status.
The actress continued, “I feel like that’s a very vulnerable and important conversation you just brought up because I’ve had this conversation with my girlfriends going through either a breakup or a divorce. Some [you should say] ‘I’m sorry’ because there is so much love and grief there, and others are ‘congratulations’ because it’s the hardest best thing you could do for yourself. I actually do understand both.”
For Kebbel, she hinted that her breakup was “one of the hardest things” that she’s ever done.

“Now I’m in a place of, like, really leaning into my own life choices,” she said. “I feel, like, probably for the first time in my life it is in this raw way — like raw. Yes, the feel-good moments but wasn’t really ready … and [to] get to know myself in a way that what it’s taught me now is the gratitude of what I’ve learned and also what do I need to explore to completely change patterns for myself in the future for my heart, for my soul [and] for what I want moving forward?”
According to the actress, she hadn’t “really [been] able to be that honest” with herself about her mindset prior to her breakup.
“I live so much of my life with so much responsibility, I had to — for a second — do all the things I was too afraid to do or [was] too controlled to do before,” Kebbel said. “All of a sudden, I turned 40 and was, like, ‘I don’t know what’s happening in me but there is a deep hole to truth that I can’t deny and I also can’t play pretend with anymore.’ I couldn’t have told you this six months ago. It’s an evolving thing where … it’s a different feeling for sure.”
Kebbel and Roerig, 41, broke the news at an April 2025 fan convention that they were officially an item. Roerig, who played Matt, even surprised Kebbel (a.k.a. Lexi on the franchise) with flowers and gave her a sweet kiss in front of the crowd.
“I love a couple ❤️ The ultimate romantic,” a fan captioned footage of the romantic debut via Instagram, to which Kebbel replied with three heart emojis.

While it’s not known how Kebbel and Roerig reconnected, they costarred in the 2023 Hallmark movie Love in the Great Smoky Mountains: A National Park Romance. Roerig has not yet publicly addressed the pair’s breakup.
As for Kebbel, she’s since been focused on her thriving acting career — most recently starring opposite her Gilmore Girls costar Milo Ventimiglia in I Can Only Imagine 2.
“Honestly, part of why I was so excited to do the movie was I felt like we had such sweet scenes together, and there was so much joking,” Kebbel exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “[There’s a deleted] scene where you throw a smoothie at me. I have never had anyone throw a smoothie at me. I remember when they called cut, I was genuinely laughing, and it led into such an intimate scene between us.”
She concluded, “In terms of memories, … I just loved laughing with you. It was fun to play like that.”
