National recognition reflects strong upward momentum and UMA’s role in serving working adults, veterans and Maine’s workforce
AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta has achieved its strongest showing to date in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Colleges rankings, earning three top-100 national placements and making significant gains across all ranked categories.
UMA is ranked:
- No. 77 in Best Online Bachelor’s Programs, up from No. 107 last year;
- No. 55 in Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans, up from No. 60;
- No. 88 in Best Online Bachelor’s in Business Programs, up from No. 118.
The year-over-year improvements underscore UMA’s growing national recognition as a public university built to meet the needs of learners balancing education with work, family, military service and community commitments.
“For many Maine residents, earning a bachelor’s degree depends on education that fits around real life,” said UMA President Jenifer Cushman. “These rankings affirm that when programs are designed with flexibility, quality, and student support at the center, learners succeed. More than 70% of UMA’s online students are employed, reflecting the demand for programs built around real-life schedules. UMA serves working adults, veterans and traditional-aged students seeking flexible pathways, accelerated options or a blend of online and on-site learning.
U.S. News evaluates online bachelor’s programs using measures that include student engagement, faculty credentials and training, use of learning technologies, student services and academic outcomes. UMA’s improved rankings reflect continued investment in high-quality online instruction, expanded advising and tutoring options, and technology-supported learning environments.
The university has also strengthened services for veterans and military-connected students through tailored advising and flexible course options that support degree completion.
