On Feb. 3, a public forum on the Department of Homeland Security’s tactics was held in Washington featuring the testimony of Luke Ganger and Brent Ganger, brothers of Renee Good, who was killed on Jan. 7 by federal ICE agents in Minneapolis. Not one single Republican showed up.
Aside from signalling complete indifference to a family in mourning, this gives me the impression that neither Sen. Susan Collins nor any other GOP lawmakers cared to learn more about what happened from these two brothers of the victim. Given the mobilization of ICE in Maine, Minneapolis and across the nation, and given the seeming inevitability that these tragedies will increase, one would hope that Collins and her colleagues would show more compassion and more concern for what is happening across our country. But they apparently cannot or will not.
What a shame.
