3. ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ (1993)
Let’s not pretend that Mrs. Doubtfire‘s premise isn’t a thinly veiled excuse for Robin Williams to dress in drag and act like an elderly woman for a good portion of the film. It’s also one of Williams’ most hilarious roles and the movie is fondly remembered as one of his best comedies.
Williams plays Daniel Hillard, an irresponsible father and husband whose marriage to Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) is falling apart. When the court bars Daniel from seeing his three children, he invents his Mrs. Doubtfire persona and persuades an oblivious Miranda to hire him as her nanny. For Daniel, it’s the role of a lifetime and he can’t afford to break character, even when the handsome Stu Dunmeyer (Pierce Brosnan) starts romancing Miranda. Not even a drive-by fruiting can stop that.
Mrs. Doubtfire is streaming on Netflix.
2. ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’ (2013)
Williams also had a supporting role in Les Daniels’ The Butler as Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of several Presidents who appear in the film. The movie is loosely based on the life of Eugene Allen, a man who served as a butler in the White House for over three decades. Certain details about Allen’s life were changed for dramatic purposes, and Forest Whitaker was ultimately cast in the title role as Cecil Gaines.

1. ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’ (2011)
Five years before starring in La La Land, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were an on-screen couple in Crazy, Stupid, Love. However, Gosling has a larger role in this film than Stone, because his character, Jacob Palmer, is the unexpected confidant and friend of Cal Weaver (Steve Carell), a newly single man who is heading for a divorce.
Jacob helps Cal recover his confidence by teaching him how to pick up and seduce women. That only serves to further alienate Cal from his estranged wife, Emily (Julianne Moore). Regardless, Cal and Jacob remain close until the former discovers that the latter is dating Cal’s adult daughter, Hannah (Stone). That’s going to lead to some hard feelings, to say the least.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. is streaming on Netflix.
