A murder investigation has been launched after a 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in southeast London.

The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of an assault on Rye Lane, near the junction of Heaton Road, in Peckham Rye at 7.09pm on Saturday.

A man was treated by police and the ambulance service at the scene, but died later in hospital, the force said.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

No arrests have been made.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron, from the Met, said: “No one should lose their life because of knife crime.

“This morning, family and friends are waking up without their loved one. Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.
