A man died early Wednesday morning in a Presque Isle house fire.
The fire broke out at the Ginn Road home about 3:43 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy flames on the second floor. Two people who escaped safely told them that a third person was missing.
The man was found dead inside the home, Moss said Thursday morning.
Investigators believe that the fire started in the man’s bedroom on the second floor, where there were no functioning smoke detectors. The home had functioning smoke detectors on the first floor.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The man’s body was taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta to determine his cause of death and positively identify him.
