Khloé Kardashian is reflecting on a time her ex Tristan Thompson attempted a grand romantic gesture — only for it to backfire spectacularly.
Speaking on the Wednesday, February 11, episode of her podcast, “Khloe in Wonder Land,” Kardashian, 41, recalled Thompson, 34, organizing for singer Giveon to serenade her.
“There was one time I was serenaded, and it was I think just a random day because I wasn’t expecting it,” Kardashian began.
Kardashian and Thompson dated on and off from 2016 and late 2021, with their romance plagued by Thompson’s infidelity scandals. The former couple are now coparents to True, 7, and Tatum, 3.
Khloe’s Most Honest Quotes About Tristan: Infidelity, Coparenting and More
“This was years ago. Tatum wasn’t born. Yeah, it was just True,” Kardashian said of the “mortifying” experience.
“Giveon wasn’t who he was now. And he is just singing,” she continued. “I remember I hated Tristan and I was like, ‘Why are you doing this?’ And Giveon is pouring his heart out. And Tristan’s trying to sit next to me and I’m like, slapping him, and poor Giveon is still singing. It was mortifying.”
Kardashian said she enlisted True’s help in an effort to make the whole situation slightly less awkward.
“I was like, ‘God, this guy is such a great singer. I love this guy.’ And I remember going inside to get True because I was like, ‘I just need like a third person to get [away from] Tristan,’” Kardashian said. “I was so annoyed with Tristan.”
In April 2025, Kardashian spoke to Us Weekly exclusively about going through “a lot of therapy” and “self reflection” after her past public relationships. (She was also previously married to Lamar Odom.)

“Like, ‘Why do I keep picking these people?’” she reflected to Us at the time. “And now I feel like I’m really strong, and I pray I can identify certain red flags or certain things that I don’t want to receive anymore. And I think you’re going to have to be really special to either disrupt my current lifestyle, my schedule and how I prioritize my time, and just to even make me feel those butterflies. I think I’m pretty guarded right now, so it will have to be a special, persistent person.”
In a January episode of “Khloe in Wonder Land,” Khloé also explained how she and sisters Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall and Kylie Jenner decide when to go public with their relationships.
Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s Relationship Timeline
“None of us are really sitting and talking about, ‘Oh, in three weeks we should talk about [how] I’m dating this person.’ That doesn’t happen. I think you just know when you’re dating someone, if you’re just dating and you know this isn’t going anywhere, you’re sort of just casually dating someone,” Khloé shared. “But if you’re in a real relationship, where you are head over heels [in love], then you might want to be more public with that person.”
Khloé added that she preferred to keep her romances on the downlow as long as possible.
“I, personally, from my past experiences, the longer you can keep something private, I think the better the chances are for that relationship,” she said. “But also, you might be dating someone and be like, ‘I’m just sleeping with this person. I’m not making this public at all.’ You can sleep with them for two years and you never want to make it public. You just have to know the energy of that relationship.”
