While athletes travel for the Summer and Winter Olympics, some fans watching from home are more curious about where they stay.
The Olympic Village houses athletes, coaches, staff and officials during the Olympic Games. Accommodations are located near the main stadiums or sports centers for the two weeks that the games take place.
At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Northern Italy, there are six separate Olympic Villages for the first time ever. Some of the more notable U.S. athletes, however, tend not to stay at the complex and instead opt for finding their own alternate housing.
The Olympic Village has gained attention this year for its temporary mobile homes. The community in Cortina can hold up to 1,400 residents and includes nearly 400 compact wooden-clad homes.

“The beauty of a Village like this lies in the fact that everything will be removed afterward,” Fabio Saldini, who is the Italian government commissioner, told the Associated Press. “Nothing is permanent — the environment will not return to its previous state but will be improved. This is a temporary village, but of high design.”
Canadian hockey player Sarah Nurse and teammate Emerance Maschmeyer showed themselves rearranging their room in the Olympic Village at the 2026 Winter Games in Milan, while snowboarder Nathan Pare shared a glimpse of his own experience in the lodges.

The sinks are also part of an open floor concept in the Olympic Village, which means they are located in between the toilet and shower, but not all in the same room.

What Are the Beds Like in an Olympic Dorm Room?
Nathan Pare’s room tour featured two narrow beds, which he clarified weren’t made of cardboard like at past Olympics in Paris and Tokyo — but they still weren’t comfortable. The beds were separated by side tables and a couch with plenty of space left in the rest of the room for “activities,” according to Pare.
