One of the reported demands for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return has been revealed.
The person or people who allegedly took Today cohost Savannah Guthrie’s mom, 84, have asked for the family to pay them millions of dollars in bitcoin, according to a local news station who reportedly received one of the ransom notes that were sent out to several media outlets.
“In the letter, the potential kidnappers demanded that the Guthries pay them $6 million before this Monday,” Tucson ABC affiliate KGUN9 reported.
Nancy has been missing for over a week as friends, family and law enforcement continue to scramble to locate her. She was last seen late on January 31, after having dinner with her daughter Annie and her husband Tommaso Cioni. Tommaso told authorities that he dropped the 84-year-old off at her Catalina Foothills home around 9:48 p.m. that evening. She was reported missing the next morning after she didn’t show up to church. Her disappearance is being investigated as a crime.

“We’re gonna pull all the stops and go at all angles. We really do hope it’s a search-and-rescue mission and we find her and she’s safe and sound,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement to Us on Monday, February 2. “But it would be unjust if we didn’t look at what’s in front of us and go, ‘We need to act.’”
On Saturday, February 7, Nancy’s children —Savannah, Camron and Annie — appeared to directly address the kidnappers and their alleged ransom demands in an emotional video shared to Instagram.
“We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” Savannah said at the time while holding her siblings’ hands. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, President Donald Trump has offered for federal law enforcement to be at the Guthrie family’s “complete disposal” until Nancy is located. On Friday, February 6, while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, he said that he believed “we could have some answers coming up fairly soon” in the mysterious case.

“I think we’re doing very well, meaning we have some clues I think that are very strong,” he said at the time. “I’m not talking about a search, I’m talking about a solution. We have some things that will maybe come out reasonably soon from [the] DOJ or FBI or whoever that could be — could be definitive.”
In an exclusive interview with Us, retired FBI agent Scott Curtis theorized Nancy’s shocking disappearance had to do with a “personal grievance” with the Guthrie family.
“If this was about Savannah, I think there would have been some kind of direct or indirect message in these ransom notes about Savannah. And we don’t see that at all,” he explained. “Or something Savannah said, right? And we don’t see that either, based on what we’ve been told.”
