A fire that destroyed a Lincoln home early Wednesday morning was caused by a crafting machine that was left plugged in, according to the state fire marshal.
The occupants of the home at 208 Main St. were woken by smoke detectors and found light smoke throughout their home. They realized the rear of the home was on fire and called 911 just after 1 a.m.
The Lincoln Fire Department extinguished the fire, but the home was declared a total loss.
Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office determined that the blaze started in a rear addition to the home near a machine used for craft projects and a dehumidifier. They believe it was caused by an electronic, computer-controlled cutting machine designed for DIY crafters, which had been left plugged in while not in use.
