Owner of shuttered Bangor and Ellsworth restaurants hit with new lawsuit

The owner of shuttered Bangor-area restaurants is being sued again.

David Reesman — who owned The Grind House, located at 1 Central St. in Bangor, and two Margaritas restaurants — is being sued by a food delivery company for failing to pay over $50,000, according to a lawsuit filed Jan. 16 in Penobscot County Superior Court.

Performance Food Group accused Reesman of breach of contract and unjust enrichment. The company is asking the judge to order Reesman to pay what he owes.

The food group has demanded Reesman pay the $50,242 he owes but he has not, the lawsuit said. Most of the money is owed from the Ellsworth eatery, according to the lawsuit.

It’s the latest legal battle for Reesman, who is accused of owing about $200,000 total to various lenders and the state of Maine. His restaurants were ordered temporarily closed May 14 by Maine Revenue Services for unspecified tax issues; Grind House and the Margaritas Mexican Restaurant in Ellsworth never reopened. The Margaritas in Orono closed earlier in 2025.

Reesman was unable to be reached for comment.

In the months since the temporary closure, Reesman was evicted from the Grind House for failing to pay at least five months of rent. He was also sued for $2,467 after he purchased and accepted delivery of items from Dennis Food Service in December 2024 and the payments were returned for insufficient funds.

He failed to appear in court and the lawsuit was ruled in favor of Dennis Foods, according to records from Bangor Small Claims Court.

Reesman has also been sued twice by Capital One in Bangor District Court since December. He allegedly owes more than $44,000 to the credit card company and has not made a payment since September 2024.

Reesman also owes the Maine Revenue Services $68,356, according to a tax lien. A lien is a court-ordered claim against someone’s property or assets that are placed to ensure a debt is paid.

Grind House and the Ellsworth Margaritas allegedly owe at least $27,000 combined in unemployment tax debt. The Orono Margaritas nearly $32,000 to Versant Power, according to a lien.
