FAA says 4 passengers and 2 crew died in Bangor plane crash

The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday updated its report on Sunday’s fatal plane crash in Bangor to indicate that four passengers and two crew members were killed.

The business jet flipped over and caught fire as it was taking off around 7:45 p.m. Sunday at Bangor International Airport.

Family and friends have since identified three victims so far, including Tara Arnold, Shawna Collins and pilot Jacob Hosmer.

The plane, a Bombardier Challenger 600 registered to principals of the Texas law firm Arnold & Itkin, took off from Houston and landed in Bangor at 6:09 p.m., Sunday, according to flight tracking websites.

The crash happened as it was taking off less than two hours later. A major snowstorm had just rolled into the area, and the Challenger 600, which can carry a crew of two and nine passengers, is known to be particularly vulnerable to ice and snow.

The federal investigation started on Tuesday after a period marred by confusion over the number of victims and their conditions, with a preliminary report from the FAA identifying seven fatalities and one survivor; the Bangor Police Department refuted those claims in a later statement.
