12 Best Action Movies on Prime Video Right Now (January 2026): ‘Tarzan’ and More
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (2017) — Pluto TV
Spider-Man’s long-awaited joining with the Marvel Cinematic Universe became official with Spider-Man: Homecoming, starring then-newcomer Tom Holland as New York City’s famous webhead, AKA Peter Parker. After having debuted alongside the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, Peter returns home to his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and his school studies despite his desire to become a full-time Avenger. Though Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) doesn’t feel Peter’s ready, Peter has his skills put to the test when a man calling himself the Vulture (Michael Keaton) seeks revenge against Stark.
After the mixed bag that was The American Spider-Man films, Spider-Man: Homecoming proved a welcome return to form for the classic superhero character, able to fit right into the already-established MCU. The small-scale but exciting adventure of Homecoming provides a fantastic jumping-off point for Peter Parker, in addition to a fitting showcase of Holland’s prowess embodying the role. Holland is joined by a talented supporting cast that includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori.
‘Hereditary’ (2018) — YouTube
Following the death of their extremely private grandmother, the Graham family begins to experience a series of increasingly terrifying occurrences. After the teenage siblings Charlie (Milly Shapiro) and Peter (Alex Wolff) go to a party, a tragic accident on the way home only further deepens the growing rift between wife Annie (Toni Collette), husband Steve (Gabriel Byrne) and Peter, now their only remaining child. As their day-to-day lives become more impaired, the Grahams are unknowingly entangled by blood in a chilling fate from which there is no escape.
Director Ari Aster‘s confident feature debut cemented him as an up-and-coming tour de force, in this horror movie that swept both the box office, critical reviews and social media. Ultra-serious and ultra-gory with occasional bursts of surprising humor, Hereditary is a unique and terrifying cinematic experience full of images that will burn into your brain. Collette’s stunning “I am your mother!” monologue still packs a punch after all these years.
‘Arrival’ (2016) — Tubi
When twelve massive spaceships touch down in twelve different locations across the planet, linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is tapped to join the efforts to discover how to communicate with the creatures and find out what they want from us. Accompanying Annie is physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), as the two must work with the United States Army to regularly visit one of the ships and research the extraterrestrials. But time is running out before a lack of clarity leads to global war.
This moving and meditative sci-fi has big ideas that it manages to anchor with a strong emotional core and a career-best performance from Adams. Considered by some to be the “thinking man’s blockbuster,” Arrival is indeed a big-budget science fiction film that has more on its mind than just an alien invasion spectacle. Instead, Arrival is a thoughtful rumination on time, free will and the power of language to engender unity. In addition to Adams and Renner, the cast also includes Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg.
‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ (2023) — The Roku Channel
The grand conclusion to the John Wick story (or is it?), John Wick: Chapter 4 follows the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 —Parabellum. John Wick: Chapter 4 manages to be more grandiose, violent and excessive than the previous three John Wick films, and yet the movie doesn’t suffer for it. Instead, this fourth film in the action franchise proves that there can never be too much when it comes to watching Keanu Reeves kick people’s butts. With fantastic set pieces, mesmerizing fight choreography, and genuinely solid performances, John Wick: Chapter 4 stands as a highlight in modern action blockbuster filmmaking.
