I am a student from King Middle School, and I have been researching climate change. Going into the future, Maine should harness the full potential of nuclear, wind, and solar, in an attempt to impede climate change, and by 2045, become carbon neutral. Moreover, if we can strive to use renewable energy sources that don’t worsen global warming, then we may be able to adapt to this changing planet.

First, I believe nuclear energy is one of the two sources that Maine should focus on developing when striving to become carbon neutral by 2045. While nuclear plants require fossil fuels to build, nuclear reactors, unlike oil, coal, and natural gas, release no carbon dioxide while in operation. Nuclear power can pose great influence over the amount of emissions-free energy we can produce in the future.

While nuclear energy is a great power source, wind energy also shows great potential for expansion and development. First of all, wind energy is never non-existent and the wind blows almost everywhere. Additionally, wind is an incredibly clean energy source. In Maine, wind is yet another energy source we should focus on where the future is concerned.

In the end, there is one question we should all be asking ourselves: How am I going to adapt to this changing world? And in what ways?
