3 Best New Netflix Movies I’m Watching This Weekend (January 16-18): ‘The Rip’ and More

Even though it’s mid-January, Netflix is already set to make 2026 a year to remember.

The streamer just debuted one of its biggest 2026 releases, The Rip, an action-thriller that reunites Matt Damon with his Good Will Hunting buddy and real-life BFF, Ben Affleck.

Netflix also added a pair of older movies that are worth watching over the weekend.

Just Go With It is an Adam Sandler comedy with a touch of class, costarring Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman who — surprise, surprise — steal the whole thing.

If you like Guillermo del Toro’s recent Netflix remake of Frankenstein, then check out one of his earlier sympathetic monster movies, Hellboy.

‘The Rip’ (2026)

Veteran Miami police officers Dane Dumar (Matt Damon) and JD Byrne (Ben Affleck) have seen it all, but their latest assignment throws them a curveball they didn’t see coming. After investigating a derelict house in a rundown neighborhood, they discover something shocking — a stash of millions in cash. No one knows about the money, except the drug-dealing owners. What’s to prevent them from pocketing the money for themselves?

5 Best New Movies to Stream This Weekend (January 16-18): ‘The Rip’ and More

That’s the intriguing setup to The Rip, an intense new action movie from director Joe Carnahan. It’s no spoiler to reveal that others find out about the money and want it for themselves. Can Dane and JD trust each other? And if not, who will betray the other first? And what about the other officers in their squad, who seemingly want the cash for themselves? With a solid supporting cast that includes One Battle After Another’s Teyana Taylor and Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler, The Rip is a throwback to all those Tony Scott and Antoine Fuqua action thrillers that dominated the box office 20 years ago. If this portends a revival, then I’m fully on board with what’s to come.

The Rip is streaming on Netflix.

‘Just Go With It’ (2011)

Nicole Kidman was in an Adam Sandler comedy? It happened, and the result is surprisingly decent. In the 2011 comedy Just Go With It, Sandler plays successful plastic surgeon Danny, who falls for a woman, Palmer (Brooklyn Decker), after their one-night stand. She thinks he’s married with kids, but he’s really not — he’s single and carries a wedding ring around to woo women. Palmer is different, so in an attempt to win her back, he asks his office manager, divorced single mom Katherine (Aniston), to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife so he can convince Palmer he’s a good guy.

The plot is complicated, maybe a little too complicated for a frivolous comedy like this one, but it works by setting the stage for a series of mistaken identity gags at an exotic resort in Hawaii. And where is Kidman in all of this? She plays Katherine’s childhood nemesis, Devlin, who — believe it or not —engages her in a dance-off at a nightclub.

Yes, it’s ridiculous, but it’s also fun to watch. Sandler and Aniston have an easy chemistry that makes it all work, which is why they later teamed up in the Netflix Murder Mystery movies years later. If the movie’s many inconsistencies and wild contrivances begin to bug you, adhere to the advice of the film’s title — just go with it.

Just Go With It is streaming on Netflix.

‘Hellboy’ (2004)

Before the MCU conquered the world, comic book movies were more misses than hits. One of the few that got it right was Hellboy, Guillermo del Toro’s imaginative take on the popular Dark Horse supernatural hero. Ron Perlman stars as the titular character, a red-skinned creature from another world who was raised to protect Earth from evil. Working for the BRPD (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense), he teams up with the amphibious Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and the pyrokinetic Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) to stop Griorgi Rasputin from opening a portal to Hellboy’s dimension and threatening everyone on Earth.

29 Best Movies on Netflix Right Now (January 2026)

Aside from its standard bad-guy-wants-to-destroy-the-world plot, Hellboy distinguishes itself from others in its genre through its stylish direction, creative production design and inventive special effects. The acting is also surprisingly good, with character actor Perlman finally finding a role that showcases all of his strengths. Equally strong is Blair as the empowered —literally!—Liz, who struggles with controlling the special abilities that make her a threat to both the bad guys and herself.

Hellboy is streaming on Netflix.
