Timothée Chalamet dealt with challenging moments filming Marty Supreme.
“I won’t say who, but in that motel sequence, there are a lot of non-actors … that I find it really thrilling to work with,” Chalamet, 30, said during a Wednesday, January 14, panel at New York City’s DGA Theater, per People. “Sometimes it would take multiple takes to really get something out of them.”
Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme, a film charting the rise of an American table tennis star’s career. In the aforementioned motel scene, Marty fell through the floor of his hotel room while taking a bath and ultimately landed on a dog and the arm of the canine’s owner.
“I’m really getting in the guy’s face and I’m really trying to get him angry with me,” Chalamet recalled. “I was saying to Josh [Safdie, the director], ‘He’s not getting angry with me, he’s not getting angry with me.’ I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to f*** with me. You don’t want to see me angry.’”

While Chalamet did not identify the background actor, he was surprised by the individual’s confession.
“I said to Josh, ‘Holy s***, who do you have me opposite, man?’” Chalamet quipped.
Chalamet’s portrayal of Marty Mauser earned him trophies at both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
“Josh Safdie, thanks for crafting a role and a story. Josh, you made a story about a flawed man with a relatable dream,” he said in his Critics Choice acceptance speech earlier this month. “You didn’t preach to the audience about what’s right and wrong, and I think we should all be telling stories like that. So, thank you for this dream.”
Chalamet subsequently closed out his remarks with a subtle tribute to his girlfriend, reality TV personality Kylie Jenner.
“Lastly, I’ll just say, thank you to my partner of three years. I love you,” he said on January 4, referring to 28-year-old Jenner. “I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Chalamet thanked Jenner again when he won the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy award at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11.
“My dad instilled a spirit of gratitude in me growing up, ‘Always be grateful for what you have.’ It’s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past, empty-handed [with] my head held high, grateful just to be here,” he said in his speech. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter. For my parents, for my partner, I love you. Thank you so much.”
Chalamet and Jenner, who shares two children from a previous relationship, have been together since 2023. The Kylie Cosmetics founder has even joined Chalamet on the red carpet on multiple occasions in support of his awards season accolades.
“Timothée is very focused on his career and Kylie loves being on the sidelines cheering him on,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in January 2025. “She loves that he’s in the spotlight more than her. It’s been a breath of fresh air.”
