It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover is opening up about being diagnosed with cancer.
“Second to last day of radiation!” Hoover, 46, wrote over a photograph of herself in a hospital gown shared to her Instagram Stories on Monday, January 12. She noted that she was undergoing radiation therapy at Texas Oncology.
She added, “I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology, but they’ve been pretty great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.”
Hoover has not publicly revealed what type of cancer she is battling, but has been sharing updates on her diagnosis in recent months.
Back in December 2025, Hoover announced via her Facebook page that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer, per a screenshot posted to Instagram by content creator Katyinck.
Hoover wrote that she spent much of 2025 on the set of the upcoming film adaptation of her novel Reminders of Him in Canada and “had recurring health issues that I continued to put off until the movie was finished.”
“When I returned home, I found out I had cancer,” she said.
Hoover wrote that the cancer had been “removed through surgery” and that she would further undergo radiation.

“While it felt huge and scary for a bit, and I had to miss out on the Regretting You premiere, and some other important career and personal moments, I just wasn’t ready to share with anyone until I knew what the outcome would be,” she posted.
In October 2025, Hoover shared with her Instagram followers that she would be missing out on promotional activities for Regretting You, the second of her books to be adapted for the big screen. The film, starring Mckenna Grace, Mason Thames, Dave Franco and Allison Williams, was released that month.
“So sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together,” the author shared with her followers at the time.
Hoover shared yet another update in a Friday, January 9, Facebook post, writing, “I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes. It also didn’t come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones.”

“This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress,” said the author, who has found herself in the crosshairs of a legal dispute between It Ends With Us director and actor Justin Baldoni and the movie’s leading lady, Blake Lively, since 2024.
“I’m happy and grateful to be alive, but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating,” she continued. “I hate when science is right. If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably real mad about it.”
Hoover’s next book-to-screen adaptation, Reminders of Him, is set for release on March 13. A movie adaptation of Verity starring Anne Hathaway is due for release in October.
The author will also publish her latest novel, Woman Down, on Tuesday, January 13.
