Billy Crudup and wife Naomi Watts were noticeably absent from the 2026 Golden Globes — but there was a good reason.
Crudup, 57, was performing across the pond in London on Sunday, January 11, as the awards show took place in Beverly Hills, California. Although Watts, 57, didn’t appear to have a professional conflict of interest, she also skipped the event.
Crudup, for his part, is currently playing marshal Will Kane in High Noon, an adaptation of the 1952 Western film by the same name. The play kicked off its West End residency earlier this month and will continue to Harold Pinter Theatre through March.
Despite missing the awards show, Crudup was nominated for a Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role — TV Series, Limited Series or TV Movie for The Morning Show. The trophy ultimately went to Owen Cooper for Adolescence.

This is the third time Crudup has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, all of which are for his portrayal of Cory on the drama. He was previously nominated in 2022 and 2024, where Oh Yeong-su won for Squid Games and Matthew Macfadyen took home the trophy for Succession, respectively.
Watts, for her part, is a two-time Golden Globes nominee. She was nominated in 2013 for The Impossible and in 2025 for her role on Feud.
Earlier this week Watts hinted that she and Crudup would not make it to this year’s awards show. She wished her husband a “happy opening to the best sheriff in town” via Instagram on Friday, January 9, ahead of Crudup’s first High Noon play performance, signifying how busy he was.

When Sunday rolled around, Watts paid homage to the Golden Globes via a throwback style post on Instagram.
“Trip down memory lane this Golden Globes Sunday. Congrats to all of the nominees!” she wrote alongside some of her past looks from the awards show. “Any fashion faves or flops? Drop below 💛😜💛.”
The couple quietly dated for years before going public in 2022. They got engaged in April 2023 and surprised fans when they tied the knot that June at the courthouse.

“A big A-list wedding just didn’t seem right; they never wanted that,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “They actually went to a friend’s birthday party in their wedding attire. There were a lot of congratulations going on, that’s for sure.”
The pair have since sung each other’s praises and been each other’s plus ones whenever possible.
“It’s never too late. We found each other later than, yeah, late in life. It’s really a special thing,” Watts gushed over finding The One in Crudup during a January 2024 appearance on Live! With Kelly and Mark.
The couple have also embraced each other’s children during their relationship. Watts shares Sasha, 18, and Kai, 17, with ex Liev Schreiber, while Crudup shares William, 22, with ex Mary-Louise Parker.
