A large swath of the state will see a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Friday evening ahead of a winter storm that will sweep across Maine on Saturday.
Remaining snow pack throughout the state is likely to significantly melt as temperatures throughout the state remain above freezing on Saturday, before a storm is expected to bring nearly half a foot of snow to regions north of Millinocket.
The storm is expected to continue through to Monday morning in northern regions, with light to moderate snowfall in the Bangor region and interior Down East. Coastal regions will likely see a mix of rain and snow this weekend.
Travelers may experience some delays on Friday and Saturday evening, as slushy and slippery conditions develop. Forecasters also expect some wind gusts that could bring down tree limbs and powerlines.
Heading into next week, daytime temperatures will dip back under the freezing point, with the winter storm moving out through the midmorning and afternoon.
