Hi, I’m the new Belfast reporter for the Bangor Daily News, covering the city and the rest of Waldo County.
I’m thrilled to report on such a dynamic and beautiful part of the state. I believe that local news is essential to a healthy and functional community and look forward to reporting on the ins and outs of city and county government and issues such housing, the economy, schools, food insecurity and climate change. And, I’m excited to tell stories about the many fascinating people — musicians, scientists, artists, cooks, activists, fishermen and more — that make this place special.
I was most recently a staff writer for The Food and Environment Reporting network, where I covered issues like climate change, food insecurity and labor through a food systems lens. I also have freelanced for a range of publications, radio shows and podcasts including Mother Jones, The Lancet and Public Radio International.
I’ve reported from a dozen or so countries and speak Spanish and French.
I grew up in Southern Maine and went to Bates College and the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, later completing a master’s degree at the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. After living for a dozen years in the San Francisco Bay Area and France, I returned to Maine in 2021 and have been living in the midcoast for two-plus years. It’s been wonderful to be back home, and to share Maine with my daughter and husband and get to experience it anew through their eyes.
