A 7,110-square-foot home in Madawaska, known locally as “The Castle on the Lake,” that boasts access to Long Lake and a bubblegum pink interior is on the market.
The five-bedroom, three-bathroom house on Beaulieu Road has three finished floors of living space, a three-car attached garage, and more than 3 acres on Long Lake.
“Lakefront land up here is impossible to find and almost 4 acres is unheard of,” said Mindy Braley, broker at NextHome Discover and the listing agent for the property.
The home’s eye-catching interior includes a marble fireplace, formal dining room, breakfast nook and dramatic two-story foyer with a curved staircase, chandelier and balcony. Rooms throughout the home are painted a variety of colors, such as pink, teal and seafoam, though many others are wood-paneled.
The exterior of the home has a large, covered wraparound porch that offers sweeping views over the lake and a turret.
The home, which is being sold furnished, is instantly recognizable in the community and is often referred to as “The Castle on the Lake,” Braley said.
“As soon as you say that, everybody knows which house you’re talking about,” Braley said.
The lower level of the home, which has walkout access to a lakefront patio, can be used as a separate living space with a bedroom, full bath, kitchen and large living area.
There’s also a large but unfinished room under the garage where the sellers planned to install a kidney bean-shaped inground pool, but never did. The materials for the pool are in the space but haven’t been installed, Braley said.
While the home’s architectural design and candy-colored walls add grandeur and character to the home, Braley’s favorite part of the space is the master bedroom, which is perched on the second floor of the turret.
“It overlooks the lake and is absolutely stunning in every season,” Braley said. “Whether it’s winter and you’ve got the snowcovered lake or the summer when there are loons out there, it’s always beautiful.”
The sellers built the Queen Anne Victorian-style house in 1992 and used it as their primary residence for 30 years before initially putting it on the market for more than $1.3 million in May 2022, as they were looking to downsize.
“It’s his design, his blueprints and she decorated it,” Braley said. “It’s what they liked and wanted.”
However, the sellers took it off the market days later and decided to offer the home as a short-term rental, Braley said. They also now live in a smaller home with a similar appearance that they built on land next door that they own.
The couple put the home on the market again on Christmas Eve 2025 for slightly less than $900,000 because they’re looking to retire from managing a short-term rental.
While the home hasn’t received much interest from prospective buyers yet, Braley said she hopes the future owner makes the property a commercial space of some kind, as Long Lake doesn’t have many waterfront businesses.
“Being from this area and wishing there was more selection, the ideal buyer would be someone who would turn it into a lakefront restaurant or bed and breakfast,” Braley said. “If I had all the money in the world, that’s what I would do.”
