William H. Macy reflected on what has helped him and wife Felicity Huffman have a long-lasting marriage.
“There’s no secrets. First of all, she’s a fabulous human being, so if you want a good marriage, marry her. But I already did,” Macy, 75, quipped to Us Weekly exclusively while attending the 2026 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, January 4. “Our relationship is founded in show biz. We met in the theater. We talk about acting all the time. We love acting. She’s a magnificent actor. We talk about our roles together.”
He continued: “We’ve been lucky and we raised our kids here in Los Angeles, and we kept them out of the business, although my oldest, Sophia Macy, is an actor. We tried to have a normal family, and it was pretty normal.”
The couple met at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York City in the early 1980s. They dated on and off for 15 years before tying the knot in 1997 and expanding their family with daughters Sophia, 25, and Georgia, 23.

After nearly three decades of marriage, the couple are still happy to spend quality time together with their kids. The family rang in the new year together in Colorado.
“My wife [and] both daughters were there, and 13 of their friends. I spent the holidays with 13 20-something year olds,” Macy told Us. “It was exciting and bewildering.”
Macy noted that he and Huffman were intentional about their hopes for 2026. “Felicity and I talked about what we want and the coming year, and we made a bit of a list,” he recalled. “It’s going to be a good year. I’m feeling very bullish about it.”
The couple have celebrated each other’s successes through the years, but they’ve also faced ups and downs while in the public eye. Huffman, 63, made headlines when she was arrested in 2019 for her involvement in the infamous college admissions scandal.
Following her arrest, Huffman pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. She served 11 days in prison in October 2019, paid a $30,000 fine and completed 250 hours of community service for her crimes.
Huffman broke her silence in December 2023, reflecting on the “undying shame” she felt following her involvement in the scandal. “I thought it was a hoax [when I was getting arrested],” she told ABC-7 Eyewitness News. “I literally turned to one of the FBI people, in a flak jacket and a gun, and I went, ‘Is this a joke?’”

More recently, Huffman opened up about how her life changed in the years since the scandal. “It’s been hard. Sort of like your old life died and you died with it,” she explained to The Guardian in February 2024. “I’m lucky enough to have a family and love and means, so I had a place to land.”
Huffman expressed gratitude to her family for standing by her.
“I walk into the room with it. I did it. It’s black and white,” she said. “[But] as long as my kids are well and my husband is well, I feel like I’m well.”
As for Macy, his movie Train Dreams was nominated in five categories at the Critics Choice Awards, ultimately winning Best Cinematography.
“First, the script, it was beautifully written. It’s based on a novella, but the writing is beautiful, just gorgeous scenes,” he told Us. “This story is about loggers at the back at the turn of the century, the one before this one. And it’s very moving. It’s about a simple man in his life and how heroic he is.”
