Jared Osmond says his Real Housewives of Salt Lake City appearances are “controversial” within his famous family.
“My family has hated it,” Jared, 55, said during the Wednesday, December 31, episode of the “Viall Files” podcast. “I’ve received comments back from pretty much all of them, like, ‘What are you doing? Why are you on this show?’”
Jared confirmed that his uncle Donny Osmond is one of the family members that have reached out.
“He’s giving you the WTF in a Donny sort of way?” podcast host Nick Viall asked. Jared responded, “Kind of.”

Jared clarified that the conversation with Donny “wasn’t so direct” about RHOSLC.
“It was more of just, like, ‘You OK?’” Jared explained. “He made a statement in the press saying, ‘I don’t know what Jared is doing,’ essentially. ‘I don’t like it, but he’s a big boy. He gets to decide what he wants to do.’ There it is.”
Donny, 68, was asked about Jared’s stint on reality TV during an interview with E! News late last year.
“I understand it’s a little bit risqué, but to each his own,” Donny said at the time. “I haven’t watched it, but good for him. There’s a lot of Osmonds.”

Jared has appeared on the Bravo show amid his on and off relationship with RHOSLC star Britani Bateman. The duo discussed their relationship in a tense conversation about commitment, which aired last month.
“They’re all great, my family,” Jared said on Wednesday. “They’re all very kind and loving humans, but they literally don’t know what I’m doing.”

Jared previously noted that he “reluctantly agreed” to appear on the show, something he clarified further on the podcast.
“I didn’t see this coming. When Britani got the phone call … when her final interview happened, I was in the room, and they pulled me into the interview,” he recalled. “I sat there on the sofa on this screen with seven Bravo execs firing questions at both of us about how we met — which is very controversial. I had no idea that the requirement was for me to also be part of her story on set.”
Jared added, “I didn’t realize I’d never really watched reality television to this point outside of Shark Tank. I didn’t realize that’s her story. Her story, especially at the beginning, has been [about] me and our relationship and how tumultuous it’s been on screen, especially.”
Jared reminded listeners that his ex-girlfriend and Britani’s husband “got together,” which ultimately led to their relationship.
While Britani told Us Weekly exclusively in June that she and Jared had split, he shared a different update on the podcast.
“We literally got back together right before Thanksgiving, just recently,” Jared said. “She’s my best friend. She’s been my best friend for all these years, and there’s just a closeness and kindness between us. We’re never mean to each other. It’s just moments of pause going. … and a lot of it has to do with me. I don’t necessarily break up, but she gets nervous.”
Britani eventually joined the podcast, confirming that she and Jared are “very much so” a couple once again.
