Two Fort Fairfield residents have been arrested and charged with drug and firearm offenses following an alleged burglary in the town around 11 p.m. Friday.
Fort Fairfield police arrested Timothy Philbrook, 33, and 23-year-old Mariah McEwen after finding roughly 7.8 grams of fentanyl and a handgun at a residence on Columbia Street, Police Chief Matthew Cummings said Monday in a release.
Officers obtained a search warrant for a vehicle at the property after a police dog followed the scent from a reported burglary of a contractor’s service truck, which had been parked in a driveway on Elm Street.
After finding controlled substances and a firearm while executing the warrant, police obtained a second search warrant for the house, where they found more illegal drugs, Cummings said.
Police charged Philbrook and McEwen with aggravated trafficking of schedule W drugs, a class A felony, and with unlawful furnishing of Schedule W drugs, unlawful possession of schedule W drugs and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, all class C felonies.
The two could face up to 30 years incarceration and a $50,000 fine for the trafficking charge, and up to 5 years incarceration and a $5,000 fine for the class C crimes, under Maine guidelines.
Additional charges related to the burglary are pending, Cummings said.
Philbrick was transported to the Aroostook County Jail. His bail is set at $2,500 cash. McEwen posted $500 bail and was released.
Both have previously been charged with drug offenses, court records show.
