No one was injured in a fire that damaged the attic of a Brunswick home on Christmas Day.
The fire at 36 Bridge Road was reported at around 3 p.m., according to Maine Department of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. The roof of the residence was heavily engulfed in smoke when emergency services arrived.
Firefighters located the most intense part of the fire near an industrial-style fan on the second floor of the house.
According to officials, fire investigators had spoken with the woman who owned the home and her son, and they said they had started a generator after an hours-long power outage in the area.
According to the homeowner, when the generator went out her son restarted it before noticing smoke coming from the eaves of the house, and promptly shut down the generator.
Both the homeowner and her son were able to leave the house without injuries, and were able to evacuate their animals.
Investigators believe that the fire started in the attic, and was caused by an electrical issue with the fan. A power surge from the generator could have caused the electrical issue.
