Chris Hemsworth suffered a nasty leg injury during a surfing expedition in Fiji.

Chris, 42, shared a carousel of happy snaps from a festive family vacation via Instagram on Tuesday, December 23, one of which captured a large gash on the actor’s calf as blood dripped down the front and back of his right leg.

Determined not to let the incident dampen the fun, Chris, who was photographed on a chartered boat off the island, held his arm muscles up like a bodybuilder as he jokingly grimaced for the camera. A video in his post also revealed that brothers Liam Hemsworth and Luke Hemsworth, and Chris’ daughter India, 13, joined Chris on the surfing trip. (Chris and wife Elsa Pataky share three children: India, and twin sons, Sasha and Tristan, 11.)

Other photos within the carousel showed the family soaking up plenty of action including Chris ripping Fiji’s monster waves, walking along the beach with India carrying a surfboard, aboard a sunset boat trip that included one of his sons, cozying up to Pataky, 49, and a final shot of Chris’ dad, Craig Hemsworth, posing with his three sons.

Fans were quick to show their concern for the Thor: Love and Thunder star, with one writing in the comments section, “Wait, just noticed: Your leg ok?” and another writing, “What happened to Chris’s calves 🥺?”

Hemsworth has spoken publicly in the past about his fearless approach to surfing, telling The Hollywood Reporter in August that he wanted to tackle a 40-foot wave while filming his National Geographic series Limitless: Live Better Now. “We couldn’t get it through the ranks. The risk assessment, basically, was too far gone, so I ended up climbing a 200-meter dam wall [instead]. They both have a fair amount of risk attached to them, but it got past the risk assessment team,” Chris said at the time. “There definitely was [concern from above]: ‘No, we need him to go off and shoot Thor next. We can’t have him drown while filming a big wave episode.”

Chris’ Fiji post comes after he recently shone a light on his personal life. During the December 15 episode of the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast, Chris chatted about happy unions while reflecting on his 15-year marriage to Pataky. “Having fun,” Chris pinpointed as a key ingredient before elaborating on his experiences. “Both having an adventurous spirit, making time for one another. The complicated times have been when it’s been all work, all kids, and all of a sudden.”

He continued, “The us in the relationship is … sort of the non-existent, you’re just kind of managing a household or the work family schedule and elsewhere will be off from work, and then I’ll be off from work and then it’s chaos, so sort of removing [ourselves] from all of that and just having time for the two of us and making space for each other rather than the rest of the world that can be so all consuming.”

Chris concluded, “You always get asked when you are promoting these big films, like, so do you guys hang out on set and like, do you guys hang out and like, are you all friends? And everyone sort of nods enthusiastically. But the truth is no one has seen each other outside of work.”
