Model Devon Aoki’s husband, James Hunter Bailey, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run in Coral Gables, Florida, which left a scooter rider with serious injuries.

Bailey, 40, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash that caused serious bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence, according to Miami-Dade jail records.

Coral Gables Police responded to the crash around 5:15 p.m. on Monday, December 15, at the intersection of Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue, according to NBC Miami.

Witnesses told police that an Audi SQ7 SUV collided with a pedestrian who was riding on a stand-up scooter. Several cameras captured the vehicle fleeing the scene. Meanwhile, investigators later determined the victim, Jonathan Stephen King, was riding the scooter in the crosswalk when the collision took place and had the right of way.

King seriously injured his foot during the incident, obtaining two fractures and a large contusion to his calf.

The victim’s girlfriend witnessed the crash, and she told authorities that she ran to the driver’s side door of the Audi to tell Bailey to move because King’s foot was caught under the wheel. Following the request, the driver sped from the scene and failed to call for help or report the incident.

Following the collision, police went to Bailey’s home and met with Aoki, 43, who was registered as one of the owners of the Audi. She said she didn’t know where the car was, though Bailey arrived at the home and parked the vehicle while the cops were still there.

Bailey was taken into custody and was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to the Miami Herald. He was later released on a $7,500 bond.

The Coral Gables Police did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.

King filed a lawsuit against Bailey on Thursday, December 18, in which he explained he was suing him for negligence.

“He’s looking me straight in the eyes as he’s running me over. I’m pounding directly on the front of the car just screaming at him for my life. He’s just looking at me and slowly rolling forward onto my leg,” King’s lawsuit read, per the Miami Herald.

King’s attorney, Justin B. Shapiro, stated that the complaint will soon be amended to “add punitive damage claims stemming from the gross negligence and/or intentional misconduct.”

“One of the reasons we filed this lawsuit so quickly is we have no reason to believe that Mr. Bailey is going to accept responsibility for this,” Shapiro wrote, according to the outlet. “So, the only way to handle this situation in my experience is to file a lawsuit and go get your day in court.”

Aoki is also being sued for vicarious liability since she owns the Audi.

Reps for Aoki did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding the lawsuit and her husband’s arrest.

Aoki is a famous fashion model who has appeared in ads for major labels including Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Versace. She has also worked as an actress and memorably appeared in the 2003 film 2 Fast 2 Furious.
