Brandon Sklenar is definitely hot as Andrew Winchester in The Housemaid, but he’s not exactly what you’d expect from the perfect husband.

The movie, based on the book of the same name by Frieda McFadden, officially hit theaters on Friday, December 19. It follows the story of a young housemaid named Millie (Sydney Sweeney), who moves into Andrew and Nina Winchester’s (Amanda Seyfried) home as hired help.

Warning: Spoilers below for the ending of The Housemaid.

While it seems that Millie is just working for an affluent family with a seemingly crazy matriarch, what she doesn’t know is that she’s actually part of Nina’s bigger plan to escape her life.

How Does ‘The Housemaid’ Movie End?

The film shock ending starts when Millie — predictably — sleeps with Andrew. What appears to be a devastating blow for Nina turns out to be the best thing that’s ever happened to her, because she can finally move out of her house, which is actually a prison.

A flashback scene offers more insight into the beginning of Nina and Andrew’s relationship, revealing that they met and fell for each other fast. After they got married, Nina discovered that Andrew is actually controlling and abusive underneath his perfect facade. Nina comes up with a plan to escape after meeting Millie, knowing that her husband would fall for their new housemaid — which is exactly what happens.

After Nina’s perfect performance and departure from their home, things get hot and heavy between Andrew and Millie. However, things change once Millie accidentally shatters one of his mom’s fine china dishes. (Family heirlooms are “a privilege” according to Andrew.) To teach Millie a lesson, Andrew locks her in the attic and makes her carve 21 lines into her stomach with one of the shards from the plate she broke. Millie initially refuses but after finding a knife hidden in the attic — presumably by Nina — she forms a plan of her own.

Millie does in fact carve the lines in her stomach to Andrew’s satisfaction. When he comes to let her out of the attic, Millie stabs him in the neck and locks him inside.

Earlier on in the film Nina reveals that Millie spent some time in prison before going to work for the Winchesters. However, Andrew doesn’t know why. She’s quick to inform him that she was incarcerated for murder. A now-angry Andrew attempts to escape the attic but Millie says she’ll only let him out after he pulls out one of his front teeth. And, yes, he does … but Millie keeps him locked upstairs.

Nina, meanwhile, has some remorse for leaving Millie in the house with her abusive husband, so she returns. Thinking that Millie is the one locked in the attic, Nina unlocks the door and lets Andrew out. The women fight him to the death — literally — and Millie ends up pushing Andrew over the balcony ending his life.

Will There Be a ‘The Housemaid’ Sequel?

Nothing has been announced just yet, but it seems that there is the possibility of a sequel on the horizon. The movie’s final scene features Millie interviewing for a new housemaid position with a different family. Millie’s new boss says she came highly recommended by Nina, before showing the camera a giant bruise on her wrist — seemingly alluding to Millie taking care of this husband as well.

Author McFadden has also written three books and one novella in The Housemaid series.

Is There a Post-Credits Scene in ‘The Housemaid’?

No, The Housemaid does not include a post-credits scene. The film does, however, include Taylor Swift’s “I Did Something Bad” as the end credits song — which is so fitting.
