NORWAY — As part of its “Holiday Helping Hands” initiative, Norway Savings Bank is pleased to donate $6,500 to four organizations helping people in need and building community in Oxford County.
The bank has made a $2,000 contribution to the Oxford Hills Food Pantry, which is housed at Christ Episcopal Church on 35 Paris St. in Norway. The pantry provides food assistance to individuals and families in need and strives to alleviate hunger and food insecurity. The pantry is open on Monday and Friday from 9-11 a.m. and Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. For more information, call 207-743-6782.
NSB has also donated $2,500 to the Oxford County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. Established in 1997, the fund has served 116 area nonprofits that have added vibrancy and health to the community, from arts and education to economic development and human services. Recent Oxford County Fund grants have assisted the Bethel Area District Exchange and Food Pantry, Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine, Oxford Hills Community Gardens, and Team Long Run in Bridgton. In addition, NSB has contributed $1,000 each to the Oxford Hills Area Clergy Association and the Oxford Hills Area Association of Churches. OHACA operates an emergency food and fuel assistance program with a mission to help area residents handle short-term emergencies while helping them find a path to long-term solutions. OHAAC hosts the weekly Norway Community Lunch, which provides a free, hot, healthy meal and socializing time for seniors, the disabled, and others. The lunch is served each Wednesday from 11:15 a.m. to noon at the First Universalist Church of Norway on 479 Main St. Lunch participants can also pick up a free bag of groceries if needed.
