A 73-year-old Howland man was sentenced to time served after he was found guilty of committing passport fraud.

Eric Ericson was convicted Oct. 16 of making false statements on a passport application after a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Bangor, according to the Maine branch of the   U.S. District Attorney’s Office.

Ericson applied for a passport on March 24, 2023, in the U.S. Post Office in Bangor, and failed to disclose that he had been issued a prior passport, as well as failing to inform officials of past aliases he had used.

Ericson had been issued a passport by the U.S. Government under a different name before the March 2023 application, according to the district attorney’s office.

Ericson was sentenced Thursday to 14 months and 8 days of time served in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
