In a season of joy and wonder, we may still experience sadness, longing to share with those who are no longer with us.

In honor of our loved ones, members of communities in the area came together in a time of remembering at the annual First Church Love Lights Tree lighting ceremony, on Nov. 30. It was a wondrous time of remembrance and hope, candles were lit, and the names of 300 loved ones were read by First Church Deacon Josh Kercsmar and retired pastor Deb Jenks. Then the Love Lights Tree on our lawn was lit and all shared in the light and beauty these special lights represent.

We thank all who generously donated lights in their loved ones’ memory and the many attending the ceremony. These donations will help people in our community who are in need.

The Love Lights Tree will shine all season, a comforting reminder of the love we hold in our hearts for family, friends, and mentors no longer here. As Sylvan Kamens and Rabbi Jack Rieme wrote: “For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.”

We invite all to come by The First Church in Belfast to share in the beauty, love, and light of the Love Lights Tree and to remember loved ones too.

With appreciation and a wish for peace for all this holiday season.
