Where Is ‘Home Alone’ Streaming This Holiday Season?
Although Home Alone was produced and released by 20th Century Fox in 1990, it’s now and forever a Disney movie. That’s because Disney purchased all of Fox’s entertainment assets in 2019. Consequently, Home Alone has a semi-permanent streaming home on Disney+.
If you have cable, there will be multiple showings of Home Alone on Freeform, a channel that’s also owned by Disney. However, streaming is always going to be the best option simply because it lets you make your own schedule.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was a direct sequel to the first film, and it was a box office hit. It just wasn’t as successful as the first one. Home Alone 3 made it into theaters with a brand-new cast and characters, but audiences didn’t warm up to it. The next sequel, Home Alone 4, was made-for-TV and it recast Kevin McCallister with Mike Weinberg in the role. But you can’t really replace Mac, and that was the last time anyone tried.
Disney+ actually produced Home Sweet Home Alone as a standalone sequel that featured Devin Ratray reprising his role as Kevin’s older brother, Buzz McCallister. It otherwise features an all-new cast, including Archie Yates, Rob Delaney, Ellie Kemper, Ally Maki, Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell and Pete Holmes. That’s a really talented lineup for a straight-to-streaming film.
What’s the Best ‘Home Alone’ Sequel?
In the second one, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Chris Columbus and John Hughes returned to direct and write the script, respectively, and all of the major cast members reprised their roles. Unlike all of the other sequels that came after it, Home Alone 2 actually tried something different by getting Kevin out of the house and into the big city by himself.
It does take a lot of coincidences to bring Kevin back into the orbit of the Wet Bandits, Marv and Harry. But it’s just so much fun to watch Kevin outsmart them and viciously maim them in PG-appropriate ways. The best new addition to the cast was Tim Curry as the concierge of Kevin’s hotel, who was rightfully suspicious of his presence there. Home Alone 2 does borrow a lot of the same story beats as the first film, but it’s not the weak xerox copy that its successors were.
