As the holiday season approaches, I am writing to emphasize the critical importance of giving and community support, especially for families affected by home fires. Home fires remain one of the most common disasters the American Red Cross responds to, and unfortunately, they can strike at any time leaving families without shelter, warmth or basic necessities.
During the holidays the impact is even more profound. I encourage everyone to consider supporting the Red Cross through donations or volunteering this holiday season.
I joined the Red Cross over 10 years ago as a volunteer to help support our community and families affected by home fires and other disasters because I have seen firsthand the devastation they can bring. It has been a true honor to help lift others up when they need it most. Whether it is volunteering to install free smoke alarms, responding to home fires, or supporting the Red Cross so that dire services can be provided, its impact is unforgettable to those who need our help.
So far in 2025, the Red Cross has responded to 240 home fires and assisted nearly 800 Mainers whose lives were unexpectedly upended this year. Your contributions can help provide immediate assistance such as temporary housing, food, clothing, and emotional support to those in need. Together we can bring comfort and hope to our neighbors and ensure the holiday season is a time of compassion and community.
Thank you for your attention and support.
