Victoria Beckham is setting the record straight about growing up “working-class.”

The fashion designer, 51, went viral in October 2023 when her husband, David Beckham, interrupted her as she spoke about having a similar upbringing to David, 50, in his Netflix documentary, Beckham.

While Victoria said she and David grew up “very working-class,” David famously told his wife to “be honest,” prompting the former Spice Girl to reveal that her father, Anthony Adams, drove her and her siblings to school in a Rolls-Royce.

Victoria was reminded of the viral scene during an appearance Tuesday, December 9, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with the talk show’s host offering her the chance to clarify her background.

“My dad was a real entrepreneur,” Victoria explained. “You know, he really inspired me. He came from nothing and he used to drive a van because he had an electrical business.”

“He would drive us to school in the van and we were happy, but then when he did very well in the ’80s, the first thing he did was go buy himself a Rolls-Royce,” she continued. “And we were devastated … like, kids just want to fit in. We used to beg him, we were like, ‘Please take us in the van, we don’t want to go in the Rolls-Royce.’ So, we were keeping it real, Jimmy.”

In Netflix’s Beckham documentary, Victoria said of her early bond with David, “I think also we both come from families that work really hard. Both of our parents work very hard, we’re very working-class.”

David then appeared in the doorway, saying, “Be honest!”

Is Victoria Beckham’s Hit New Netflix Show Worth Watching?

“I am being honest,” Victoria replied, to which David asked, “What car did your dad drive you to school in?”

Victoria began answering, “So, my dad…” before David interjected. “No, one answer. What car was it?” Victoria eventually admitted, “OK, in the ’80s my dad had a Rolls-Royce.”

The scene immediately went viral on social media, and Victoria even capitalized on the moment, releasing a T-shirt bearing the words, “My dad had a Rolls-Royce.”

In September 2024, Victoria’s husband admitted that he “hated” making the four-part docuseries, which was directed by Succession actor Fisher Stevens.

“It made me nervous, and it made Victoria nervous,” David said, per Variety. “I hated almost every moment of making it … it was very difficult.”

“As much as people think they know everything about us, they don’t really, and we don’t really let those doors open to our house,” he added.

In October, Victoria starred in her own three-part Netflix documentary series following the designer in the lead-up to her fashion house’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week.

“People thought I was that miserable cow that never smiled,” she said in a trailer for the project. “But I do. Don’t be shocked. I have never forgotten where I come from.”

“Performing was my dream,” she recalled of finding fame with the Spice Girls. “The Spice Girls made me accept who I am. And then all of a sudden, it stopped. The uncool kid at school that’s awkward, that was me. But I desperately wanted to be liked, have a sense of worth. Fashion was this creative outlet.”
