AUGUSTA — Volunteer Maine, the state’s commission for community service, is launching a new state-wide volunteer matching program called ServeMaine.org and is encouraging agencies that use volunteers to create a free agency profile.
“We are proud to be launching ServeMaine.org. It advances our mission to promote service and volunteerism in Maine,” said Brittany Gleixner Hayat, executive director of Volunteer Maine. “Supporting your neighbors through volunteerism is essential to the community engagement that is so important in our state.”
Agencies who sign up must be a nonprofit, municipal or government agency, a school or school district or a faith-based organization. There is no cost to use the program.
Once approved, agencies can begin posting all types of volunteer positions and volunteer events. The site allows agencies to also schedule volunteers, track volunteer hours, and manage volunteers and events.
To join the more than 50 agencies already approved, go to ServeMaine.org and click on the link to register your organization. The landing page also includes a link to full instructions for agencies. Both large organizations like Good Shepherd Food Bank and Maine Health, and smaller agencies, like the Seashore Trolley Museum and Trinity Jubilee Center, are already represented. ServeMaine.org is appropriate for agencies of all sizes and can be especially useful for volunteer-run organizations and those with limited budgets.
In the coming weeks, Volunteer Maine will begin promoting ServeMaine.org to potential volunteers in communities across the state. Agencies with posted opportunities will stand out to people interested in volunteer positions and exploring ways to get involved.
Those interested in volunteering are already able to create a user profile for the site and can search among the opportunities that have been posted. Interested volunteers can create a profile by clicking on the “Volunteer Now” button on the ServeMaine.org landing page.
Businesses interested in supporting local agencies can sign up employees or staff teams who can volunteer for posted opportunities or participate in Days of Service; however, for-profit businesses are not eligible to create agency profiles.
