The London-listed asset management group Premier Miton is this week set to name one of the City’s leading financial institutions bankers as its next chairman.

Sky News has learnt that Christopher Williams, whose career as an adviser encompassed stints at Citigroup, Credit Suisse and Perella Weinberg Partners, is to succeed Robert Colthorpe as Premier Miton’s chair.

Sources said the appointment of Mr Williams was likely to be announced alongside the fund manager’s full-year results on Thursday.

Investors will be looking for evidence of further cost-saving opportunities as well as chief executive Mike O’Shea’s efforts to stem recent outflows.

Mr Williams acted as an adviser to the Treasury during the banking industry meltdown in 2008, which led to the bailout of Britain’s biggest banks and the launch of a huge insurance operation called the Asset Protection Scheme.

He also advised on some of Europe’s biggest banking mergers prior to the financial crash.
