Scott Jennings is sending a message to Catherine Zeta-Jones after having an on-air clash with her son, Dylan Douglas.
“Well, I was surprised. I’m more than willing to apologize personally to Catherine Zeta-Jones over a nice seafood dinner if she wants to do it,” Jennings, 48, said on the Monday, December 1, episode of the “Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain” podcast.
The back-and-forth began when Dylan, 25 — the son of Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas — appeared on CNN NewsNight With Abby Phillip last month and had a showdown with the show’s conservative commentator. After the exchange, gossip columnist Rob Shuter claimed that the Hollywood couple was not happy.
“They are fuming at CNN. Like, I’m talking full-on, ‘never again, blacklist the whole network’ levels of furious,” Shuter alleged on his Substack blog.

“Dylan was actually really nice off the air,” Jennings said. “He was very and I think he was honored to be there. We had what is relatively a normal exchange. He made his Democratic talking points. I dismantled him. This is not an uncommon thing to happen on CNN. I was as surprised as you are to see that his parents were upset about it.”
He continued, “I think that what happens with some of these folks is that they exist in a very tight little bubble. They never really talk to Republicans or conservatives. They don’t really get outside of their bubble where people tell them how smart and good-looking they are. And then they wind up on television with someone of a different persuasion, and it’s surprising to them. I hope Dylan comes back. I’m sure he’ll get better at it.”
Jennings noted that he “kinda” feels “bad” for Dylan that his parents are “complaining about it.”
“I never saw Dylan complaining about it,” Jennings claimed. “To me, I think Dylan was probably OK with how everything went. But when your parents jump out there in the public domain and complain on your behalf, it makes you look pretty weak.”

Meghan McCain, meanwhile, claimed that Dylan “should not have been booked on a show” with Jennings and quipped that it’s “like bringing a knife to a gun fight, quite frankly.” McCain, 41, claimed that the segment made her feel “so uncomfortable,” calling herself the “queen of nepo babies.”
“I have been put on TV way too early as a nepo baby,” she said. “And of all people, Paul Begala schooled the living s*** out of me the one and only time I went on Bill Maher.”
“I have been Dylan Douglas,” McCain continued. “But what didn’t happen is my parents didn’t have a meltdown. My dad was like, ‘Buck up and move on.’”
Dylan is the host of SiriusXM’s “Young American with Dylan Douglas,” a Gen Z political program.
